Microbiome Science and Medicine is a premier source of high quality, timely and broad impact experimental research related to the biology and biomedical implications or applications of the microbiomeand scholarly information with worldwide dissemination and accessibility of the articles. The journal welcomes submission from the global scientific community of original experimental research articles, brief communications, reviews, mini-reviews, and commentaries, opinions or hypothesis proposals.

Microbiome Science and Medicine provides fair but thorough and constructive peer review with quick turnaround. There are currently no page charges. The journal provides editing and language-correction services for authors from non-English-speaking regions.

Microbiome Science and Medicine publishes articles describing original experimental research results and reviews or commentaries on current topics related to the biology and biomedical implications or applications of the microbiome. The journal's scope includes the study of host-microbe systems biology and microbial ecology and the impact of microbiomes on health and disease. Encouraged are reports of studies that help define, integrate, analyze or elucidate the role of the microbiome or its components (transcriptome, proteome, metabolome), as it relates to (1) immunology and infectious disease; (2) obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive medicine or conservation biology; (3) gastroenterology and oncology or nutritional and cognitive health; or (4) other areas of scientific or biomedical interest or application. Also included are fundamental studies and exploratory studies in animals that might be relevant eventually to human medicine, as well as mechanistic studies involving host-microbe interactions or microbial ecology in humans and other animal host systems.
