Since 1975 Dr Jerzy ZIELIŃSKI has investigated physics of liquid crystals. He has studied electro-optics effects in nematic and cholesteric liquid crystals, their optical and dielectric properties and their influence on static and dynamic LCD characteristics. He intensively studied liquid-crystalline mixtures for passive matrix addressing applications. Amongst other he was in the group which worked out a construction of several information displays (car dashboard, railway information tables). He was working on comparison of different flat panel technologies: PDP, FED, LED, OLED, and LCD for various applications.
Now, his main subject is optimization of the reflective liquid crystal display and its numerical and experimental optimization. He tries to overcome serious problems connected with a construction of such a display for color visualization and the problems with the fidelity of color visualization, especially for the different observation angles. He has organized the laboratory and employed professional staff to study electro-optics properties of liquid crystals and theirs applications.
Prof. J. Zieliński is the author and co-author of abut 120 scientific papers, 2 books (in Polish) and more than 10 invited talks at scientific international conferences. He is an active member of the international technical community and a member of many scientific committees of international and national conferences on liquid crystal physics and applications, crystal growth, opto-electronic devices, display technology and application. Conferences chair and organizer of the International Liquid Crystals Conferences and International Conference of Solid State Crystals, co-editor of eight SPIE Proceedings, and two Ferroelctrics.
